Overview

In keeping with the "Dialogue(s)" theme of the 2026 Traversées du Marais festival edition, the film "Kevlar Soul" portrays troubled youth in contemporary Sweden

As is customary, the start of the school year and the Traversées du Marais festival coincide with open-air cinema. In keeping with the "Dialogue(s)" theme of the 2026 festival edition, we screen the film "Kevlar Soul", a portrait of troubled youth in contemporary Sweden.

Disappointed with the adult world, brothers Alex and Robin are left to their own devices. Their fusion relationship has made Robin entirely dependent on his older brother. And then one day, Alex falls in love. Feeling abandoned, Robin loses his footing.

Consumed with guilt, Alex devotes all his energy to trying to save him – even as Robin may not want to be saved. Maria Eriksson-Hecht holds a master's degree in directing from the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Her graduation film Schoolyard Blues (2017) won around forty prizes in over 100 festivals. She subsequently directed episodes of the acclaimed series Thin Blue Line and Thunder in My Heart.

Kevlar Soul is her first feature film, crowned at the Guldbagge (the Swedish equivalent of the Césars) for best directing and best supporting actor for Torkel Petersson.
