Exposition à l'Atelier 11 Cité Falguière : Soft Ground

The Soft Ground exhibition by Miguel Cipriano explores the links between sculpture, photography, and digital technologies. Stemming from his residency with L'AiR Arts at Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, the exhibition questions the transformation of the body into data and the place of the sculptural gesture in the era of digital tools. Soft Ground is a solo exhibition by Portuguese artist Miguel Cipriano. Created in response to his residency at Atelier 11 Cité Falguière, the exhibition invites reflection on the human hand at the crossroads of sculpture, photography, and contemporary digital technologies. Taking the historic Cité Falguière as a point of reference, the exhibition extends the work of art historian Diogo de Macedo (1889 – 1959) by questioning how the relationship to sculpture has shifted from the hand to the machine, and how the body is now mediated by digital tools. At the dawn of the 20th century, sculpture underwent profound transformations. Artists from the École de Paris, such as Diogo de Macedo, navigated between academic traditions and modernist sensibilities, fostering a spirit of experimentation. Extending this legacy, Miguel Cipriano approaches the body from a different angle. Using photogrammetry and 3D printing, he generates sculptural forms from scans of the human body, translating physical presence into technological expression. The exhibition presents a series of photographs and sculptures that bear witness to this process of material transformation: from body to data, from data to object, then from object to image.
