Overview
Réparer les vivantes is a project that gives a voice to women who have undergone sexual mutilation, while highlighting their journeys of repair and resilience. Led by the association Réparons l’excision, the photographic and sound exhibition is created by photographer Élodie Ratsimbazafy and sound documentarian Karine Le Loët.
This exhibition tells the story of the reconstruction journey — physical, sexual, social, and psychological — of women who have been victims of female genital mutilation (FGM) through an immersive reportage within the multidisciplinary care unit for women victims of FGM at Montreuil Hospital (Seine-Saint-Denis).
Nearly 230 million girls and women (UNICEF 2024 figures) worldwide have undergone FGM, and nearly 4 million young girls are still at risk each year. In France too, thousands of women live with the consequences of this violence, making their care a real public health issue.
The exhibition will be presented jointly at the Maison des Réfugiés, the James Baldwin media library, and on the forecourt from 2 July to 1 September 2026. Breaking the silence around FGM: des - Ville de Paris
