Fête des Griots : 30 ans de cultures à Paris 20e

A popular and intergenerational festival to celebrate West African music, dances, traditions and cultures in the heart of the 20th arrondissement.

Come and celebrate West African cultures and traditions at a new edition of the Fête des Griots, organised by the Benkadi Afema 20 association, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

On the programme: live concerts, music, rhythms, dances and West African traditions, in a festive, warm and intergenerational atmosphere.

Young and old alike can discover the role of griots, essential figures in oral transmission, who keep stories, music, memories and knowledge alive from one generation to the next.

To make the celebration even more colourful, the public is invited to come in their most beautiful traditional attire, from their country or region of choice, including France.

A parade will allow everyone to celebrate together the diversity and richness of cultures and clothing traditions.

Created in 1996 by Bintou Sissoko, Benkadi Afema 20 has been working for three decades in the 20th arrondissement and the Paris region around sharing, solidarity, transmission and the link between cultures.

The association also promotes the know-how of local residents, particularly through a catering service run by women from the neighbourhood. This new edition of the Fête des Griots is organised with the support of the Réunion – Père-Lachaise Neighbourhood Council.
