Overview

Marthe Gautier and the discovery of Down syndrome (trisomy 21).

This fourth installment in the theatrical series Les Fabuleuses deals with Marthe Gautier's discovery of Down syndrome (trisomy 21), a discovery long attributed to her colleague Jérôme Lejeune.

Quickly sidelined, Gautier would only tell her truth about this story fifty years later. The INSERM Ethics Committee would side with her. The play also exposes the battle for the liberalisation of abortion, which Lejeune fiercely opposed.

" Emmanuelle Bouchez — Télérama TT "Julie Timmerman delivers a staging that is as understated as it is clear. Marie-Christine Barrault embodies a radiant Marthe Gautier. " Mathieu Perez — Le Canard Enchaîné "A captivating, well-documented and highly informative show.

An incredible story to see at the Théâtre de la Reine Blanche. " Nathalie Simon — Le Figaro Read the article "With great humanity, Marie-Christine Barrault magnificently embodies the wounds of this woman who steadfastly pursued her passion: healing children's hearts.

[…] A truly beautiful piece of work.

" Marie-Céline Nivière — Coups d’Œil Read the article "We leave stunned by the treatment reserved for this woman at the origin of a major discovery, whose work was silenced before finally being recognised for its true merit, many years later, and which commands admiration.

Edifying! " Lakota Hary — Théâtre Online Read the article "A dynamic and aesthetic staging, where excellent actors play multiple roles, contributes to making the narrative fascinating.

" Culture Tops Read the article "Marthe Gautier et la découverte de la trisomie 21 is an essential show that does justice to a scientist long ignored. The play intelligently illuminates the mechanisms of women's erasure from the history of
