BEIRUT, the musical project of American Zach Condon, returns in 2025 with his seventh album A Study Of Losses. He will perform for two exceptional dates in Paris at Salle Pleyel on 30 June and 1 July 2026.

The album came to life in spring 2023, when Viktoria Dalborg, director of the Swedish circus Kompani Giraff, contacted Zach to ask if he would be interested in creating music for their next project, a show based on an adaptation of a novel by German author Judith Schalansky.

The main themes of the book and its circus adaptation deal with loss, grief and the impermanence of everything we know: from extinct animal species to lost architectural and literary treasures, as well as more abstract concepts of loss through the aging process.

"After finishing 11 songs and themes, Viktoria asked me if I could extend some of the songs with instrumental themes to match the total duration of the planned show.

At that point, I was immersed in a sonic universe inspired by chorales, Renaissance music and other ancient musics that obsessed me, and the instrumental pieces quickly followed, almost all new.

I asked Clarice Jensen, an extremely talented cellist and arranger I'd worked with on 'No No No' and some concerts, to arrange and play some of these instrumental pieces with a string quartet.
