There was a time when driving a car was a sport, when travelling by car was exceptional and inseparable from elegance and wealth. It is this bygone era that the BTV invites us to discover through its heritage collections, particularly that of the magazine "Omnia. Revue pratique de l'automobile".
The horses of the internal combustion engine were difficult to tame. To achieve this, it was necessary to protect oneself – to hide – behind thick goggles, under thick dusters, and headbands. This is what drawings by René Vincent, Robida, and others show us.
Owning a car was reserved for a modern but also wealthy elite. It was very chic! To be a woman, drive your own car, travel alone. How modern! She made people dream, as shown by the illustrated covers of the beautiful magazine "Omnia".
Through a selection of about thirty images, the Bibliothèque du tourisme et des voyages (BTV) invites us to go back in time and rediscover the era of automobile pioneers, a time when people dressed specially to get into a car.
