Founded in Lyon before being transferred to Paris, the museum found its home in the iconic building constructed by Émile Guimet on the Chaillot hill.
Overlooking Place d'Iéna, this historic site was born from Guimet's vision to create a museum of world religions, inspired by his travels in Egypt.
