Vulfpeck, founded in 2011 at the University of Michigan, quickly established itself as a singular figure on the funk and soul scene. The band is made up of Jack Stratton (keyboards, guitar, drums, production), Joe Dart (bass), Cory Wong (guitar), Woody Goss (keyboards) and Theo Katzman (drums, guitar, vocals). Their musical approach, often described as « minimal funk », draws its roots from the sound of session bands from the 1960s and 70s, notably the Motown label and musicians like The Wrecking Crew. This heritage translates into particular attention to groove, rhythmic precision and interaction between musicians, favoring organic instrumentation and pared-down arrangements.
