About — The venue
The Musée National Eugène-Delacroix is a museum founded in the late 1920s by the Société des Amis d’Eugène Delacroix, becoming a national museum in 1971. It first opened in June 1932, with an inaugural exhibition dedicated to the painter and his close circle, Delacroix et ses amis.
Located in the painter's last apartment and studio, where he lived from December 1857 until his death on August 13, 1863, the museum was created more than sixty years after Delacroix's passing by painters, collectors, and curators, who came together in an association to save the premises, which were threatened with destruction. Chaired by Maurice Denis, the Société des Amis d’Eugène Delacroix also included Henri Matisse, Paul Signac, Édouard Vuillard, and George Desvallières, among others.
