The attractive force of Ellen Arkbro's music resides in sequences of chords – not only in their harmonic transformations, but also in the temporality of their unfolding. Music becomes ephemeral architecture, like clouds drifting across the sky.

"Nightsong" is a new composition for a trio of viols. The piece consists of a progression of chords that stretches like a melancholic journey.

The performers – Adam Grauman, Samuel Runsteen and Nicole Hogstrand – are intimately engaged in the tuning of each harmony, seeking sonic clarity, as a single body. The work was created for the 2025 Musica La Stella Dentro Biennial.

The evening continues with compositions for solo organ. Ellen Arkbro (born 1990) is a composer, musician and sound artist. Her work explores harmonies founded on chords of great precision.

She composes for acoustic instruments and/or synthetic sounds, and also creates sound installations. She conceives listening as an active process, progressively inviting the listener to transform through contact with sound.

Arkbro has presented works in situ notably at the Barbican in London, at the Kölner Philharmonie, at Serralves in Porto, at the Issue Project Room in New York, at the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, at Silent Green in Berlin, at the Ina GRM in Paris and at the Temppeliaukio church in Helsinki.
