This summer, the Maison Élysée museum presents an exhibition dedicated to Fort de Brégançon, a presidential residence located in the south of France.
This fortress, whose name comes from the Celtic 'brig' meaning hill or mount, is erected on a rock 35 metres above sea level, overlooking the Mediterranean from the Var hills.
Of Merovingian origin, this historic site first served as a military fortification before becoming, in 1968, the official residence of the Presidents of the Republic.
The exhibition traces the multiple evolutions of the fort and the metamorphoses of the site, looking back at the work carried out over the centuries to shape the place as we know it today.
It also highlights the importance of Fort de Brégançon in the presidential life of the Fifth Republic, and its role in diplomatic relations.
For this exhibition, La Maison Élysée benefits from loans from the Mobilier national, the Musée de l’Armée and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. This event accompanies the recent publication of the special issue of Beaux-Arts magazine dedicated to Fort de Brégançon.
