The group draws from 1950s and 60s tradition: amplified guitar, Hammond organ, swing, soul and blues. 'Come and Jive with us!'
Jive is the art of writing or improvising lyrics to jazz themes, a practice popularised in the 1950s by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, Bob Dorough and King Pleasure.
Unlike scat, Jive stands out through the use of real words, like the famous 'Cat-alogue' or Cab Calloway's 'Hepster'sdictionary'. It is this art that singer and poet Antoine Dessane has decided to revive with the Jive Messengers.
The group draws from the tradition of the 1950s and 60s, amplified guitar, Hammond organ, swing, soul and blues in the spirit of Jimmy Smith, Booker T. 's and The Doors. Tonight's repertoire: Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and others, revisited in Jive for an evening of discovery.
