Overview
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is a fraternity composed of seven brasses, all sons of Phil Cohran, trumpeter of the Sun Ra Arkestra. Raised in madness and the wildest jazz imaginable, the heirs have proven themselves worthy.
For 20 years, they have worked the paternal legacy until sculpting their own musical treasure, which shines and sets concerts ablaze.
Supported, and this is a first, by guitar and bass, their composite music combines jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, rhythm and blues, song, New Orleans brass band, and even occasionally flirts with house or soca.
It reminds us that Afro-American music are the heirs to one and the same lineage. The wild energy emanating from these fusion hybridizations is powerfully groovy, downright jubilant, infinitely danceable! So let yourself be swept along!
And when the brothers combine their jazz background with their hip-hop culture, no wonder their brass orchestra sparks. Collaborations with Mos Def or Gorillaz, 12 albums to their credit including the very funky Bad Boys of Jazz (2020).
