Overview
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, come and rediscover the Maison de Balzac and attend two literary discussions.
Saturday 19 September 2026, Judith Lyon-Caen will present “Balzac nous appartient. Une histoire politique de la transmission littéraire” published by CNRS editions. A fascinating work that studies the appropriation of the writer by everyone, for better or for worse, because above all, Balzac is polymorphous. Realist, visionary, mystic, positivist… Balzac, revolutionary writer, Balzac, conservative writer, the one of Victor Hugo or the one of Barbey d’Aurevilly… Learn more
Sunday 20 September 2026, Jean-Claude Caron on smells and perfumes in Balzac with his work “Le nez de Balzac, suivi de Odorama balzacien” published by Champ Vallon editions. The historian has agreed to present his rich book, based on "La Comédie humaine", but also on Balzac's correspondence and the testimonies of his entourage. The author also evokes the smells of Balzac's body. Thus, Balzac's nose has its place and Jean-Claude Caron evokes, in parallel, that of his characters. Don't we say, "he has a nose for it", an evocative metaphor. Learn more
