Located on a grove, at the highest point of the park designed by Jean-Charles Alphand, the Batignolles kiosk appears as a transparent temple: slightly set apart, a place for contemplation and observation. Inside, a representation that, like a garden, is both structured and changing. It can only be grasped in a flow. One stops, walks around, leaves, comes back. A suspended screen-plane, decomposed into a multitude of translucent sheets, floats in anticipation. It carries my latent photographs of the garden. Under the effect of light and wind, the screen becomes permeable to the landscape and its variations. The work creates a tension between the image of the real place, the photographic image, and the mental image that the viewer recomposes in front of the device. The kiosk then becomes a chamber of apparition: a space where perception, presence, and memory coexist in a single composition.
About
Photographer Luca Nicolao develops an artistic practice centred on space and the experience of places. His work often arises from wandering: the recording of images becomes a bodily activity, an instinctive reaction to the landscape.
