What if art became a way to reconnect with the living world?

As part of L’Automne de la science, the library is hosting a conference dedicated to the relationship between art and nature. Through a three-part journey, this talk invites attendees to explore how artists use the living world to think, create and question our place in the world.

First, creating from nature means drawing inspiration from its forms, colours and rhythms to offer representations of it. Creating with and in nature, secondly, involves considering nature as a material or a creative space in its own right.

Finally, standing alongside it means examining contemporary artistic practices that seek to reconnect with the living world and rethink our relationship with the environment.

This conference thus offers an accessible and sensitive perspective on these various approaches, intersecting works, artistic methods and current issues, to better understand how art can help reconnect with the natural world.

This conference will be led by Eric Parmentier, art historian. It will last for one hour and will be followed by approximately thirty minutes of discussion with the audience.
