Guest of honour: Claude Philipps Master cabinetmaker and retired vocational high school teacher of fine woodworking, Claude Philipps turned his attention in the 1990s to reflecting on and developing contemporary marquetry, a wood art inherited from an ancestral tradition well known in Alsace, which he strives to reinvent through original creations.

His work is distinguished by an approach in which wood becomes a true artistic language. He composes unique works using various carefully selected wood species, playing wherever possible on the textures, contrasts and natural nuances of the veneer.

He thus presents several series of works, each exploring a specific universe: "Harmonie", dedicated to more intimate formats, where balance and delicacy dominate; "Éclats Monumentaux", composed of large-format pieces designed for strong visual immersion; "Hommage à l’Alsace", a series inspired by regional roots and Alsatian cultural heritage.

His artistic approach is based on an ongoing dialogue between tradition and modernity: he draws inspiration from ancestral marquetry techniques while developing contemporary creations, sometimes figurative, most often abstract.

He seeks to create purely imaginary landscapes from natural woods, favouring raw material rather than pictorial reproduction, most often crafted on round formats.

Claude Philipps is recognised as a contemporary figure in artistic marquetry and his works are regularly exhibited and showcased in regional cultural venues, contributing to the rediscovery of this wood art from a different angle.

He was listed in the Drouot des Artistes in 2009 and in 2010 registered a technique with INPI (the industrial property institute) involving the superposition of multiple layers of veneer, combined with extreme temperature and pressure, enabling
