Overview
An exhibition dedicated to the memory and awareness of the internment of nomads during the Second World War.
During the Second World War, various groups of people deemed dangerous or undesirable were interned in camps by the Vichy regime, which collaborated with Nazi Germany. Among these internees were Jews, communists, members of the Resistance, and also "nomads". Yet the latter are rarely mentioned in accounts and commemorations of this dark period. It is to raise awareness of this history that we are presenting the exhibition Une histoire oubliée. Gens du voyage 1939-1946. We will also be hosting a discussion evening on Thursday 15 October to draw connections between the anti-Gypsyism that led to the internment of Travellers and their situation today.
