Lise Meitner and the discovery of nuclear fission.
This first episode in the theatrical series traces the journey of Lise Meitner. An Austrian physicist of Jewish origin, she collaborated with German chemist Otto Hahn in Berlin.
With Hitler's rise to power, her situation became precarious, and she was forced to flee under very risky conditions in 1938.
It was she, along with her nephew Otto Robert Frisch, who proposed the mechanism of nuclear fission, but only Hahn, her Berlin collaborator, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1944.
