Overview
Learning to read, accessing knowledge, understanding the world, and being able to participate in it are all conditions for a vibrant democratic life. This meeting with Céline Alvarez reminds us that equal opportunities are also built from the very first learning experiences and that reading remains one of the most powerful tools for emancipation.
Learning to read in kindergarten: a crucial issue for reducing academic failure and inequality. Since the publication of "Les Lois naturelles de l’enfant", Céline Alvarez has held a unique position in the French educational debate.
Through her research and pedagogical experiments, she advocates an approach to learning based on neuroscience discoveries, children's autonomy, and the pleasure of learning.
On the occasion of the release of her new book, she will revisit an issue that she believes is now central to preventing academic failure and sustainably reducing inequalities: learning to read.
Because today, one in two children in 4th grade struggles with words when reading and does not understand a simple fifteen-line text.
Based on the most recent scientific studies and the specificities of the French language, Céline Alvarez will show why learning to read in kindergarten rather than in CP (first grade) constitutes one of the most effective levers for preventing academic failure and sustainably reducing social inequalities.
Conceived as a one-woman show punctuated by exchanges with the public, this meeting will provide keys to understanding that are full of hope.
