As part of the "William Klein: Films, etc." Retrospective, this screening invites you to (re)discover William Klein's film "Qui êtes-vous Polly Maggoo ?".
Qui êtes-vous Polly Maggoo ? , Polly Maggoo is the pseudo-portrait of the top model. In this first feature film, William Klein enjoys creating a fake reportage, with his characteristic devastating satirical humour.
The central character of Polly, played by model Dorothy McGowan, attracts the covetousness and ambitions of the small world teeming in the universe of fashion and media.
Klein, who had just slammed the door on French television, and who would soon after stop working for Vogue, thus settles scores with these circles he knows well.
He pins down, in no particular order, the socialite press star and her snobbish followers, television journalists (Philippe Noiret and Jean Rochefort), the prince reigning over an operetta kingdom who wants to marry Polly, the designer of unwearable metal dresses… Several real personalities of the time must have, quite rightly, felt targeted by the film's caricature.
While visually linked to the effervescence of the sixties, the film remains current and corrosive today.
