With the Quartet XP – XP for Experience, of course – Magic Malik continues to advance in open territory, where jazz reinvents itself at every moment.

Flutist with a singular gaze, curious about everything, he handles sounds like one plays with light: by moving shadows, bringing unexpected colors to the surface. His flute speaks, breathes and plays, carried by that instantly recognizable energy that runs through all his music.

Alongside him, three musicians as inventive as they are attentive: Maïlys Maronn on piano, who has also been heard in the Kafrobeat adventure, Jean-Luc Lehr on bass nourished by traditions from India, Africa and Eastern Europe, and Vincent Sauve on drums, somewhere between intuitive jazz and aleatoric music.

Together, they make the stage a space of collective play where changing grooves, surprising harmonies and fleeting melodies succeed one another without anything ever being fixed.

After an incandescent live album recorded at Baiser Salé, praised for its freshness and spontaneity, the Quartet XP continues its path: living, demanding and generous music at once, to follow with eyes closed, heart wide open.
