She first made a name for herself in the Odd Future collective before striking out on her own, bringing a rare freshness to the R&B scene.

Syd will be in concert on Saturday 5 September at La Cigale and will be touring Europe to promote her brand new album Beard, due out on 17 July!

Known for her work with the Odd Future collective, which included Frank Ocean and Tyler, The Creator, Syd began her solo career in 2017 with the release of her debut album Fin, bringing a rare freshness to the R&B scene.

Later a GRAMMY Award winner, she has just announced her forthcoming album Beard with the release of a new single, “Callin’” featuring Blu June. This third album will be released on 17 July and will include the flagship track “Anytime” featuring James Fauntleroy.

For Syd, Beard represents a coming of age. It’s a snapshot of her current life. “This album marks a real stage of maturity for me. It’s a photograph of what my life looks like today. The title was inspired by the fuzz on my upper lip, something society always taught me to hate.

I fell in love with that fuzz, and it pushed me to question everything that was supposed to make me feel self-conscious. It allowed me to regain my self-confidence, to fully embrace who I am and everything I love about myself, no matter what others think.

The title also represents how I perceive myself in relation to my peers, particularly in music. ’ Not really a sideshow in my case, but rather an anomaly, someone apart. Hard to compare. And I own that too.

Transforming things that were once complexes into strengths has been extremely liberating.
