Télamuré Tarantella Roots

Three tarantella specialists who awaken on stage the raw power of ancestral rituals from Southern Italy.

Their music, profoundly apotropaic — made to ward off evil, heal souls, and draw bodies into a trance — brings back to life the fervour of popular festivals, where dance becomes a rite and rhythm a collective catharsis.

Télamuré tarantella-roots was born in 2008 from the meeting of brothers Francesco and Giovanni Semeraro, originally from Puglia, and Francesco Rosa from Calabria. Fate brought them together in Paris, a historic land of welcome for Italian emigration.

In the cafés of Belleville, Ménilmontant, and Montreuil, they blend their voices, their dialects, their drums, their breaths.

It is there that their repertoire is forged: a living heritage, passed down by word of mouth from the elders of their villages, collected at religious and pagan festivals, or learned within their own families.

Over the years, the three musicians weave a deeply rooted yet intensely contemporary music, where the hypnotic rhythms of the tamburello, archaic melodies, and incantatory voices reactivate the full ritual dimension of the tarantella: music that heals, protects, and liberates.
