A singer-songwriter, or ACI for short (auteur-compositeur-interprète), is a person who writes the lyrics and composes the melody of the songs they perform. The music is generally finalised with the help of an arranger.
The songwriter reserves the right to improve the handwritten score they have written, which authenticates their style, stature, and autonomy. This right cannot be diverted by other musicians, which guarantees its uniqueness. This is a copyright that grants them moral rights (inalienable) and economic rights (in France, typically 70 years after the date of their death and the war years covered by jurisprudence). The work is protected if it is original, if it reflects the personality, tastes, and fantasy of its author, and this is independent of its artistic or aesthetic qualities.
