Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden is a British heavy metal band formed in December 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, quickly joined by guitarist Dave Murray. It ranks among the pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal. Its lineup, which has changed several times, has been composed since 1999 of Steve Harris on bass, Bruce Dickinson on vocals, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers on guitars, and Nicko McBrain on drums. Having sold over 180 million albums, it represents one of the greatest commercial successes in heavy metal. Its longevity, powerful and melodic compositions, diverse discography and especially its role as a precursor to the genre have made it one of the most recognized bands on the heavy metal scene. Its repertoire includes many classics including The Trooper, Run to the Hills, Fear of the Dark, The Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Wasted Years, Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight and The Evil that Men Do.

The band's name refers to an instrument of torture invented in the late 18th century, the iron maiden.
