Atelier de « Calligraphie Coréenne »

To mark Hangeul Day, celebrated on 9 October, and the opening of the K-ZONE, the Centre Culturel Coréen is offering a traditional Korean calligraphy discovery workshop.

Based on the harmony of dots and strokes, Korean calligraphy is an art where every gesture matters. Since the creation of Hangeul in the 15th century, it has held an essential place in Korean culture.

Through ink and brush, it expresses the balance between void and fullness, the simplicity of forms and the beauty of movement.

Distinguished by its natural elegance and the importance given to spaces, Korean calligraphy allows participants to explore the principles of Hangeul as well as an artistic approach based on the pursuit of harmony and balance.

During this workshop, open to all, participants will be able to discover the four fundamental elements of traditional calligraphy — the ink stick, the ink stone, the Korean hanji paper and the brush — and be introduced to this art of gesture.

Ms Geum Young-sook, teacher at the Korean Cultural Centre's calligraphy workshop, will also offer a personalised moment during which she will calligraphy visitors' first names or a word of their choice on a fan or a sheet of hanji, which can be kept as a souvenir.

A free practice area will also be set up to allow participants to observe examples of calligraphy and practise reproducing Hangeul characters.
