Ciné-concert : projection de "Au pays des chasseurs de têtes" ( Edward Sheriff Curtis / 1914 ) accompagné par Laura Ortman violon

A screening of Edward Sheriff Curtis's silent film "In the Land of the Head-Hunters" (1914), accompanied live by violinist Laura Ortman. A ciné-concert in which the music is played over the images.

This ciné-concert pairs a screening of "In the Land of the Head-Hunters", a film made in 1914 by the American photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis, with a live musical performance. The film was shot without sound and is presented here with a violin accompaniment by Laura Ortman, who plays along the images throughout the screening.

The film is one of Curtis's rare fiction productions; he devoted much of his work to documenting the Indigenous peoples of North America. It features members of the Kwakwaka'wakw communities of the north-west coast of Canada, in a reconstruction of their traditional life. The French title, "Au pays des chasseurs de têtes", follows the usual French rendering of the English "In the Land of the Head-Hunters".

The evening is aimed at audiences interested in silent cinema, the history of ethnographic imagery and live-performed film music. The Théâtre Claude Lévi-Strauss, in Paris, hosts concerts and performances.
