THE STORY December 1897, Paris. Edmond Rostand is not yet thirty, yet already has two children and plenty of anxieties. He has written nothing for two years. As a last resort, he offers the great Constant Coquelin a new play, a heroic comedy in verse, for the festive season.

Only snag: it is not yet written.

Defying the whims of actresses, the demands of his Corsican producers, his wife’s jealousy, his best friend’s romantic entanglements and the lack of enthusiasm from nearly everyone around him, Edmond sets about writing this play that nobody believes in.

For now, he has only the title: Cyrano de Bergerac.
