Exposition de l’œuvre «Cimetière en cheveux»

Recently restored, Milliat's picture, Cimetière en cheveux, is on exhibition at the Nantes History Museum.

As Halloween approaches, the Nantes History Museum is exceptionally showcasing an object that is as strange as it is unusual: the Cimetière en cheveux, created by Milliat.

Recently restored, this relief picture has revealed many of its secrets on this occasion, notably the fact that it was once mechanised! From 6 to 31 October 2026, this astonishing cemetery is on display for the first time in room 17 of the museum's permanent exhibition.

It is accompanied by a film recreating the movement of its moving parts. This is also an opportunity to admire a rare collection of hair art objects from the museum's collections, revealing the fascinating history of this fashionable practice in the 19th century.
