Overview
**Earth, stone and fibres have conquered contemporary architecture. Thousands of projects of great technical, ecological and aesthetic quality are emerging across
Earth, stone and plant fibres now play an increasingly important role in contemporary architecture. All over the world, numerous projects bear witness to their technical, ecological and aesthetic qualities.
Low in energy consumption and widely available, these materials help to reduce the exploitation of non-renewable resources and the energy needs of buildings.
Using materials derived from the ground and the fields is therefore one of the most promising ways to build for tomorrow, while restoring meaning to the building trades.
Local sectors are becoming structured and are developing, fostering job creation and boosting the economic activity of local areas. Bio-based and geo-based materials now hold an essential place in thinking about post-carbon architecture and the ecological and social transition.
Following on from the "Fibra architectures" exhibitions in 2019 and "TerraFibra" in 2021, the "Materia" exhibition is dedicated to contemporary architecture using earth, stone and plant fibres.
It highlights the aesthetic qualities, construction performance and environmental benefits of eco-constructions selected as part of the Materia Award.
The exhibition emphasises the complementarity of these materials and showcases several exemplary renovation projects in particular.
It aims to raise awareness of these architectural styles among professionals and the general public alike, while promoting the commitment of clients, the creativity of designers and the expertise of craftspeople and contractors.
ENSA Toulouse is hosting this exhibition for the annual TOCA TIERRA workshop, organised from 12 to 16 October 2026. Aimed at introducing first-year architecture students to bio-based and geo-based materials, this workshop alternates between theoretical and practical sessions.
For a week, students discover these materials, their history
