Inaugurating this new space, this series of three displays scheduled until 2027 presents a selection of drawings from the Jacques Sargos collection, donated by the latter to the museum in 2024.

Well known to museums and art lovers alike, art dealer, publisher and collector Jacques Sargos has become an important partner in the art world.

In the space of nearly forty years, more than two hundred paintings, sculptures, graphic works, and sometimes entire collections of drawings or documents, have joined—through him (or his gallery)—institutions such as the Musée du Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Carnavalet, the Petit Palais, several major American museums, and many others, notably in Bordeaux, the city where he was born and where he lives.

Dedicated to architecture, decorative arts and ornamentation, this collection is both varied and coherent, with modest pieces of definite educational interest and other more exceptional ones; it is designed to offer a kind of panorama (or at least the beginning of one) of architectural, decorative, ornamental or illustrative drawing.

This ensemble is entirely representative of the taste and curiosity of a particularly discerning art lover and also offers a mise en abyme of the museum's collections and spaces.

As an instrument of thought with multiple uses and fields, the thirty or so drawings presented in rotation in this space cover nearly five centuries of European production. The display is arranged chronologically according to the major fields of acquisition
