Overview

A contemporary journey through the memory of rubber, from Bordeaux to the West Indies via Taiwan, blending industrial and ecological histories with the artist's intimate narrative

Discover a brand new exhibition in Bordeaux. Simon Gabourg questions buried memories and the traces left by commercial and industrial systems.

An artist born in Pointe-à-Pitre and a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux in 2022, he explores the diversity of cultural, economic, social and political flows that run through our contemporary societies.

He proposes creating new alternative narratives, myths and unprecedented forms, starting from the remnants of materials and technical objects marked by history.

These are narratives where other forms of life and resilience coexist, and where fragments of the past nourish the worlds to come.

Following an initial chapter of his work dedicated to the wooden pallet, Simon Gabourg is now deploying a new axis around rubber, drawing from the port of Bordeaux and the Garonne, areas rich in industrial and commercial heritage.

Bordeaux, a strategic port in the rubber trade, becomes the entry point for a reflection on industrialisation, the exploitation of natural resources (rubber trees) and their environmental stakes.

Accompanied by Zébra3 and the Archives de Bordeaux Métropole * for several months in the form of a research and creation residency, the project is rooted in specific locations in Bordeaux, passing through Taiwan and the West Indies, thanks to a group of partners, and highlights the intersections between memory, industrial infrastructure and ecological transformations.
