Gretel et Hansel - Cie Chat Perché

Presented by the Théâtre du grand rond - Toulouse PLATESV-R-2021-009913/009414/009915 Theatre, puppetry, from age 6, duration: 45 min.

Compagnie Chat Perché, whose work for young audiences we have been supporting for a long time (Même pas faim, Le Mange-bruit), returns once again with a puppet show that revisits, this time, the Brothers Grimm tale and explores the place of sibling bonds.

A show that succeeds in its wager of speaking to children without losing depth. In this reworking of Hansel and Gretel, the famous Brothers Grimm tale, author Suzanne Lebeau engages with her own childhood and with the children she watches growing up around her.

She evokes the powerful and rarely admitted desire to be the sole object of one's parents' love. The existential shock caused by the arrival of a second child gives rise to a love-hate relationship as delightful as it is unsettling...

In this extreme situation, Suzanne Lebeau, with great delicacy, shows us Gretel's doubts but also the strength she deploys, which helps to rebuild the sibling bond. While keeping the conventions of the tale, Compagnie Chat Perché creates here an original and poetic world.

The magnificent sets, the precision of the puppets and the choice of visible manipulation (the puppeteer is seen) let us be carried along by the story through a back-and-forth between narration and manipulation.
