Street art is nearly 40 years old. From the first graffiti in New York in the 1970s to the highly varied forms it takes today, it has never stopped arousing curiosity, controversy and even tension. This exhibition is both comprehensive and problem-led. It sets out to explore the variety of street art forms, not graffiti alone. Attention is also paid to the range of styles and how they have evolved. Finally, it questions the ambiguous status of this art: vandalism? engaged art? art in the street? street culture? The aim is not to offer answers but rather keys to understanding and openings for reflection.
