As part of its "Tout un monde en français" series, the Alliance française de Paris presents a unique literary encounter with Yara El-Ghadban and Rodney Saint-Eloi, authors of "Les fascistes n’ont jamais compté les étoiles" (Éditions Mémoire d'Encrier, 2026).

Following Les racistes n’ont jamais vu la mer, Rodney Saint-Éloi and Yara El Ghadban resume their correspondence, inviting us to reflect on the place of love, friendship and solidarity in the face of the world's violence. Let us retell the history of fascism.

Drawing on their backgrounds and experiences, Yara El-Ghadban and Rodney Saint-Éloi look back at times past.

From a genocided Palestine to a failing Haiti, they recount the tyranny of the powerful, racism, predation, the era of techno-finance and billionaires, the climate crisis, and the mapping of wars and catastrophes. But not just that.

They invite us to return to the myths that shaped the world, in order to jointly reimagine friendship, solidarity, creativity, and restore a place for hospitality. Les fascistes n’ont jamais compté les étoiles speaks of upheaval just as much as of hope and love.

Born in 1976, Yara El-Ghadban is a Palestinian novelist and anthropologist living in Montreal. Her books tell the stories of men, women and children who, in the face of history, violence and exile, dream of tomorrow.

She is the author of four novels published by Mémoire d’encrier, including La danse des flamants roses (2024).

Poet, writer, essayist and publisher born in Cavaillon (Haiti), Rodney Saint-Éloi is the author of some fifteen books of poetry, including Je suis la fille du baobab brûlé (2015) and Fais du feu (2025).
