Paris-Roma : et si on célébrait les 70 ans du jumelage ?

The fireworks display on 31 December 2025, over the Arc de Triomphe, revealed it… In 2026, Paris and Rome will celebrate the 70th anniversary of their unique twinning. A closer look at the scheduled highlights.

“Solo Parigi è degna di Roma, solo Roma è degna di Parigi”: “Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris”: such is the motto of the twinning through which the two French and Italian capitals decided to symbolically unite their destinies on 30 January 1956. The year 2026 thus marks the 70th anniversary of this exclusive twinning, which the two cities wish to celebrate together, on 29 January in Rome and then on 30 January in Paris with official ceremonies organised in the presence of the mayors of both cities, as well as a cultural programme deployed in both cities throughout 2026. These cultural and memorial events, some of which are the result of collaboration between major Parisian and Roman institutions, will highlight the artistic richness of Rome and Paris, and how the two capitals have inspired each other over the centuries. Some highlights in Paris:

From 7 to 12 April: ITALISSIMO, the traditional festival of Italian literature and culture, will celebrate this twinning by fostering dialogue between writers, artists and works from both capitals;

From 2 to 6 July: the Dolcevita sur Seine festival will this year offer a grand cinema celebration with exceptional artists and guests, as well as its large open-air cinema.

Exhibitions dedicated to Rome will also begin in February on the railings of the Hôtel de Ville and on the banks of the Seine. Other events proposed by several cultural establishments or structures, such as the Institut Culturel italien, Cie Flies, Atelier de Paris, etc., will be unveiled soon!
