Rencontre autour de la proposition de panthéonisation de Samuel Paty

Four years after the murder of Samuel Paty, the call for his entry into the Panthéon continues to be made. Join us on Tuesday 13 October at 19:00 in the Salle des Fêtes of the 10th arrondissement town hall for an evening of remembrance and reflection with Joëlle Alazard, president of the Association des Professeurs d'Histoire-Géographie, and Antoine Reinartz, who played the teacher in the film L'Abandon.

On 16 October 2020, Samuel Paty was murdered for having defended, as he did every day in his classroom, freedom of expression and critical thinking. Since then, a request has been made for his name to enter the Panthéon, alongside those who have marked the history of the Republic. This meeting will be an opportunity to recall why this recognition is necessary, and what it would convey as a message to the teaching profession as a whole and to the defence of freedom of expression. Joëlle Alazard, historian and president of the Association des Professeurs d'Histoire-Géographie, will share her perspective on the historical and civic stakes of this request. Antoine Reinartz, who played Samuel Paty on screen in Vincent Garenq's film L'Abandon, will speak about what the role taught him about the man and the teacher.

A moment of remembrance and mobilisation, so that this request for the Panthéonisation does not remain unanswered.
