As a child, Saint-Exupéry was given two nicknames: the Sun King, and Moon-Picker. His whole life was marked by oxymorons. He was an adventurer in love with freedom, who flourished best when serving a cause greater than himself – the Aéropostale, for example. He was a dreamer who fulfilled himself through action. A sensitive loner, who was never happier than in the midst of his friends. He was an impulsive thinker, and a philosophical adventurer. He sublimated his torments, first by flying, and above all by writing his masterpieces, which blend poignant narratives with very forceful reflections. For him, the other does not diminish us: they augment us. He taught us that one cannot predict the future, only make it possible. He died to offer a free future to France. The sense of duty was sacred to him, and his actions embodied his thinking until his last breath.
