Cipher is a new quartet uniting four voices among the most active on the Norwegian jazz scene.
Their eponymous debut album recorded at Neby Studios in Oslo in June 2025 presents a group founded on deep musical complicity collective energy and shared curiosity about directions music can take.
Cipher's name reflects the group's central idea: that of coded language an internal musical code form developed over years playing together in different formations.
The quartet relies on intuitive understanding of phrasing rhythmic placement and improvisation reflexes of each member.
This shared vocabulary not only shapes how music comes alive on stage but also the very composition writing conceived from the start thinking about the group members' unique interaction.
