Overview

Dar Williams is regarded as one of the finest singer-songwriters in the United States. Born and raised in small towns in New York State, she began playing guitar and writing songs at a very young age.

In 1990, she moved to Boston to pursue dramatic arts, but she wrote songs, took singing lessons, performed in coffee-houses and recorded her first album. Early in her career, Dar made her name by supporting Joan Baez on tour.

In 1998, she formed the folk trio Cry Cry Cry with Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky to pay tribute to some of their favourite folk artists, including REM, James Keelaghan, Robert Earl Keen and Ron Sexsmith. Her solo discography is very rich.

After two earlier recordings released on cassette, her "first" album, The "Honesty Room", came out in 1993. In her songs, this remarkable singer-songwriter addresses themes such as religion, gender issues, anti-commercialism or loss, always with a great sense of humour.

Released in September 2025 by Righteous Babe Records, her new album "Hummingbird Highway" includes, among other things, a livelier version of "I wanna see the bright lights tonight" by Richard Thompson - RT, and a track in Franglais, "Tu sais le printemps".

POPINCOURT "Among our proudest representatives of 'Made In France' pop with a capital P, Popincourt has held a prime place since we discovered A New Dimension To Modern Love, his first album released in 2016. com
