Juste Irena

JUSTE IRENATHEATRE & MARIONETTESCOMPAGNIE PANAME PILOTIS A Polish woman lives in a retirement home.

She is 98 years old, her name is Irena, and her appearance as a wrinkled old apple makes the heroic deeds she carried out during the Second World War impossible to suspect: 2,500 Jewish children saved from the Warsaw Ghetto and from deportation.

While three high-school students from Kansas, Liz, Megan and Sabrina, investigate the life of this heroine, Irena summons the ghosts of her past in her room. She reconstructs the fragments of a memory that is fading, so that the unimaginable may remain engraved forever.

This polymorphic show weaves a tight mesh between fiction and historical reality, past and present, flesh-and-blood actresses and object puppets.

Juste Irena recounts the ills of yesterday to prevent those of today, resonates with the notions of courage and humanity, and sheds light on both History with a capital H and small stories. But there are no great or small stories in life: there is LIFE!
