Le Rêve de Mercier

Presented by Le Théâtre Princesse Grace, as part of Monaco's presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

As part of the Monegasque Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Le Théâtre Princesse Grace presents Le Rêve de Mercier, a play written by Alain Pastor and directed by Pascal Vitiello. Paris, July 1794, under the Terror.

Françoise-Thérèse de Choiseul-Stainville, a young French aristocrat who became Princess of Monaco by marriage, has been imprisoned for several months, awaiting her appearance before the Revolutionary Tribunal, which could lead her to the scaffold.

The sudden arrival in her cell of the writer Louis-Sébastien Mercier, who had dreamed of a Revolution “the most peaceful and the most happy”, is it a sign that she might escape this cruel fate?

All the more so since, in the shadows, a conspiracy against Robespierre, suspected of aspiring to dictatorship, is brewing. An improbable encounter in a tragic historical context.
