Overview
Minon, a young Afro-descendant woman, recounts her journey to discover the hero of her childhood, King Béhanzin.
A national figure of Benin, he resisted French colonisation of the Kingdom of Dahomey at the end of the 19th century, then was deported for twelve years to Martinique, before dying on the return journey from his exile to Algeria.
With the help of hangings and a pop-up book, she confronts the reality of the myth and peels it back, trying to understand its complexity.
Faced with the legacy of deportation, the text offers itself as a response and a reparation, allowing one to take root differently in the world. And it invites us to dream of a future in an archipelago, as close as possible to the living.
