When parents write to teachers, it sometimes results in… gems! Between spelling mistakes, lyrical flights of fancy, and blatant bad faith, excuse notes are rarely literary masterpieces… but always little treasures of unintentional humour! Late arrivals, absences, punishments, disastrous report cards, or imaginary ailments: parents never lack inspiration to defend, justify, or save their offspring — even if it borders on the absurd. In this funny and tender comedy, six parents, summoned for a mysterious meeting, discover they have more in common than they thought: their children, of course… but above all, their excuse notes. Authentic, delightful, sometimes poetic, often mind-boggling — and always true — these notes become the pretext for an unexpected moment of sharing, a joyful settling of scores, and some touching revelations. Inspired by the genuine gems collected by Patrice Romain, this show pays tribute to the treasures of parental language — and to the humanity of those who write them.
