2020, the year of the coronavirus pandemic. While the world of music was forced to stop, five old friends brought to life an idea that had been gnawing at them for a long time and which would finally give birth to a new band and a true powerhouse: The Halo Effect.

The members of The Halo Effect are not only masters in their field, but also among the pioneers of the melodic death metal scene in Gothenburg: Solo guitarists and melodic death metal masters Niclas Engelin and Jesper Stromblad, singer, growler extraordinaire, and lyricist Mikael Stanne, to which are added the solid pillar and foundation of the group, bassist Peter Iwers, and his accomplice of over twenty years, percussive drummer Daniel Svensson.

Knowing each other since their early days in the late 1980s, then having played together in various formations in the 1990s, they eventually dominated the Gothenburg metal scene, mainly as members of two flagship groups and figureheads of Swedish metal, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, who also count among the pioneers and main architects of the melodeath movement: the Gothenburg Sound.

A sound that would resonate around the world and influence countless metal bands over the 1990s and early 2000s.

This was also the starting idea behind The Halo Effect: to return to roots and explore the sound of this revolutionary metal of old, while adding the experience and know-how that members can bring today.
