Synopsis
Composed in 1733 when Handel was at the peak of his glory, Orlando is a singular opera: few characters – yet all of them brilliantly portrayed –, a tight plot, and a dizzying exploration of human passions. Love, jealousy, illusion and guilt clash within it up to the famous madness scene of the second act, where Handel makes his hero waver between hallucination and fury in music of striking modernity.
About the show
For Mariame Clément, the challenge is not so much one of transposition as it is of emotional truth. Between chivalric dimension and subjective perception, her staging will evolve between myth and contemporaneity, revealing a hero torn between love and duty, a true modern-day Don Quixote, tossed about between reason and passion. With a top-tier vocal cast, Jean-Christophe Spinosi will know better than anyone how to plunge us into this unique musical and human universe.
