Overview
Lebanese artist Wael Koudaih, known as Rayess Bek, has long been drawn to exploring the cultural memory of the Arab world.
Alongside his lively trio Love & Revenge, formed in 2015 at La Dynamo and present at the most recent Banlieues Bleues festival with Agmal Layali, a tribute to Oum Kalthoum, he delights in blending archives, electronic music and critical storytelling in more reflective projects.
In Chayyel, which closes the 2026 Méditerranée season, he has teamed up with the artist Joan Baz to reinvent the dabkeh, a hugely popular music and dance form in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, in a mesmerising sonic and visual performance-trance built from recordings made and filmed in Beirut.
Where tradition, modernity and the desire for freedom dance together.
