Overview
To mark the centenary of the death of Rainer Maria Rilke, Jean-Paul Schintu brings to life letters and poems that outline a European life and an intimate body of work.
Arranged and performed by Jean-Paul Schintu, letters and poems retrace the life journey of Rainer Maria Rilke and reveal the richness of his correspondence. More than 11,000 letters bear witness to his thought, his friendships and his loves, as well as his perspective on his era.
Written mainly in German, but also in French, they extend his poetic and literary work. Over the course of his travels and encounters, from Prague to Paris, from Russia to Switzerland, Rilke explores the themes of solitude, creation and the 'inner space of the world'.
The reading also evokes his ties with Lou Andreas-Salomé, Clara Rilke, Marie de la Tour et Taxis, Auguste Rodin and other figures of his time.
An actor and director, Jean-Paul Schintu has performed in more than sixty plays and created several productions blending texts and music around major authors.
